How to Schedule a Custom Tattoo Project

Scheduling a custom tattoo is a project workflow, not simply choosing an open hour. The artist first needs enough information to decide whether the idea fits their specialty, how much coverage it requires and whether a consultation or multi-session plan is needed.

Inquiry, consultation and appointment are different

An inquiry introduces the project: subject, placement, approximate coverage, references, budget context and photographs of existing tattoos when relevant. Submission does not guarantee acceptance or reserve a date.

A consultation resolves design direction, feasibility, scale and scope when the artist needs discussion before scheduling. The tattoo appointment is the reserved working session after the project and required deposit have been accepted.

Large projects need a session plan

Sleeves, back pieces, chest panels, color realism and complex cover-ups may require several sessions. The artist decides how to divide outlining, shading, color and finishing work and how much settling time is needed before the next stage.

Do not schedule a session immediately before travel, swimming, sun exposure, work requirements or an event that would prevent you from following the studio’s care instructions. Protect the project by reserving realistic time around each appointment.

Use the artist-specific booking path

Deposits and reserved time

A deposit reserves artist time and supports project preparation under the studio’s written terms. Before paying, read how the deposit applies to the appointment, what notice is required for a schedule change and what happens after a late cancellation or no-show.

Keep confirmations and communicate through the channel specified by the studio. A social-media comment, separate direct message or message to the wrong artist may not count as an official change request.

How far ahead should you ask?

There is no universal number of weeks. Availability changes with the artist, project type, season and cancellations. Submit once the idea, placement, coverage and budget are real enough for review; do not rely on generic timelines for every small tattoo or sleeve.

If you have fixed travel dates, disclose them in the first message. The artist may not be able to complete a custom design within a short visit, and a deposit should not be paid until the date and project fit are clear.

If you need to reschedule

Notify the studio as soon as possible and follow the written policy. Do not assume a deposit transfers automatically. A preventable late change can cost both the client’s deposit and the artist’s reserved working time.

Schedule around investment protection

Review the care restrictions before choosing the date. Pools, hot tubs, prolonged sun, tight uniforms, sports and travel can conflict with a fresh tattoo. The best appointment is one that leaves room to protect the work afterward.

No. The form begins project review. A date is reserved only after the studio confirms acceptance and completes the required scheduling and deposit steps.

Can I book a full sleeve through live availability?

Large custom projects should use the relevant artist’s intake form. Live availability is intended for the openings described on that page and should not be used to bypass project review.

Can multiple sessions be reserved at once?

That depends on the artist and approved project plan. The studio may schedule stages in advance or confirm later sessions after reviewing how the work has settled.
